All safety and risk services integrated into Campus Public Safety

Environmental Health and Safety and Hazardous Waste Management have been integrated into Campus Public Safety (CPS), following the departure of Wayne Wood, who was director of the two units and retired in December 2019 after 35 years at McGill.

“Given that EHS and HWM have similar operating models and missions as CPS, it was a natural fit,” said Robert Couvrette, Associate Vice-Principal, Facilities Management and Ancillary Services, of which CPS is a member unit. “The integration is an opportunity to leverage the various teams’ strengths and increase the synergies between them.”

Also joining CPS is the Risk Advisory and Insurance Services team (previously Risk Management and Insurance). The Risk and Insurance integration follows the transfer earlier this year of the enterprise risk management facilitation responsibilities to the Internal Audit unit. The change provided an opportunity to expand the Risk Management and Insurance unit’s service delivery model, as well as increase the visibility of the University’s risk and insurance service offering.

The other units that make up Campus Public Safety are Emergency Management and Preparedness, Security Services, Fire Prevention and Parking and Transportation Services.

“The addition of the services offered by the teams now joining CPS will enable us to offer the McGill community a cohesive safety, risk and insurance service offering,” said Pierre Barbarie, Director of CPS.

No changes are planned in the daily administration of CPS services. Students, faculty and staff should continue to contact individual units directly. Visit the FMAS website or the CPS website for more information on CPS services.
