Like a glass of water when you’re thirsty, a warm home never feels better than when you’ve been out in bad weather. To help raise funds and awareness for those who don’t have a home to return to, McGill students sleep and live on the street for five days each March.
While sleeping (safely) outside on campus, students rely on direct donations for food, have no access to showers or their usual living space, and are prohibited from using social media other than to promote the campaign. Otherwise, participating students go about their day as usual: they must continue to honor work and school commitments in spite of the challenging circumstances.
The event gives students a more concrete perception of the challenges of being homeless, and serves as a platform for them to raise funds and promote awareness. Funds raised are given to grassroots organizations Chez Doris and Dans la rue.
