Held each year during Reading Week, Alternative Spring Break places students with Montreal not-for-profit groups for five days of volunteering, learning and interacting with the local community. Students are immersed in social justice topics through their work with organizations like Santropol Roulant and Maison de l’amitié, and gain valuable perspectives on life beyond McGill.
The program begins with an orientation session to prepare students for their role and help them make the most of the week, and ends with an opportunity to reflect on—and discuss—their experience. Alternative Spring Break provides more than just a large and willing free labour force to deserving causes: it introduces students to a lifetime of service and consideration of the greater good.
