Community Engagement Days

An annual project hosted by the Social Equity and Diversity Office, Community Engagement Days (CED) brings diverse sectors of the Montreal community together for several days of volunteering, discussion, and service-learning. Its goal is to serve as an entry point to, resource for, and celebration of a broader culture of community engagement at McGill. Each year brings new connections between McGill and Montreal neighbourhoods, groups and social purpose organizations.

Between 30 and 40 group volunteer activities take place on campus and around the city. Previous events have included:

  • preparing and serving a community meal (the 2016 cooking collaboration with the Afghan Women’s Center was a huge hit!).
  • maintaining and harvesting a community garden.
  • cleaning up community outdoor space.
  • helping local community groups with events like fundraisers and food drives.

Activities are chosen to highlight mutual collaboration between the University and Montreal community organizations. Community Engagement Days welcomes participation from members of the greater Montreal community as well as McGill students, staff, faculty and alumni!
