Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a Canadian NGO whose McGill chapter welcomes students from all majors and faculties. EWB’s approach favors systemic change, made by investing in people and creating opportunities for them to realize their full potential. The organization also works to raise awareness on policy matters and social issues.
The McGill chapter of EWB was founded in 2001, and uses the University as a platform to challenge the status quo in international development. For example, the group recently led the initiative to make McGill Quebec’s first Fair-Trade Certified campus. The chapter also sends one or more students each year to Africa for a summer spent assisting on-site development projects.
