SWAM Montreal

swimability

Established under the umbrella of the Students’ Society of McGill University, SWAM’s (Swimming With A Mission) mission is to provide swimming lessons specifically adapted to children with special needsa group that is 10 times more likely than the average child to drown or be injured in a near-drowning incident.

Experience has shown that for children with special needs, one-on-one swimming instruction is a far more effective approach than group lessons. SWAM draws on a team of qualified  swim instructors who volunteer their time to provide individual lessons at a cost far lower than typical private lessons. The lessons become a fun and empowering experience in addition to increasing the child’s safety.

Instructors are specially trained to teach children with a range of conditions, including:

  • Down syndrome
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Global developmental delay
  • Epilepsy
  • Attention deficit disorder
  • Visual impairment
  • Hearing impairment
